Patients moving back into Walker Baptist Medical Center after bomb threat evacuation

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE 11:49 a.m.: Staff has been given the all-clear to bring patients back into the Walker Baptist Medical Center after an evacuation this morning.

Some patients were transferred to Birmingham. One baby was born in the parking lot during the evacuation.

Police Chief Rowe says there is a lead on the suspect.

Almost 80 patients and hospital staff are in the rain after being evacuated from Walker Baptist Medical Center this morning.

The Walker County EMA tells us the evacuation was in reaction this morning to a bomb threat.

So far, the Walker County Sheriff's Office, Jasper Police, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have all responded to the scene. The EMA is asking the public to donate tarps to shield patients from the wet weather. Some patients have been transported to a surgery center across from the hospital.

Also in Walker County, police are blocking parts of Highway 69 because of threats to bridges along that road.

We have crews on the scene and will update this story as more information is confirmed.
