Road work has begun Monday to improve Interstate 20 in Birmingham.
The Alabama Department of Transportation's project is from Interstate 59 in Birmingham to Highway 78 in Leeds.
This is Phase III of the project, and will close the westbound lanes of I-20 from exit 136 (I-20/I-459 Interchange), to exit 130 (I-20/I-59 Interchange), and is expected to last approximately 90 days.
Drivers who are on I-20 westbound into Birmingham should take I-459 North to Exit 33-A to I-59 South.
The work is to repair and replace the asphalt and concrete that have worn out due to heavy trucks and heavy volume of traffic.
About 74,000 vehicles travel the nearly 10-mile stretch every day.
