Death of man shot in grocery store parking lot ruled self defense

BIRMINGHAM, AL -

The fatal shooting of a Birmingham man in a grocery store parking lot was ruled as self defense. 

According to the Birmingham Police Department, victim Lysander Perryman, 62, was fatally shot around 11:40 p.m. June 19 in the 2400 block of Pearson Avenue Southwest.

Witnesses identified the suspect. Investigators later discovered that Perryman and the suspect were involved in a confrontation when Perryman began firing his gun at the suspect, who returned gunfire.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's office said the suspect acted in self defense when he shot the victim. No charges will be filed.
