The John Mackey Award watch list was released Tuesday. Among the players listed in the preseason watch for the award were two juniors from the state. Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah and Alabama's Brian Vogler graced the list that contained 5 SEC tight ends.
Uzomah recorded 7 receptions for 136 yards for the Tigers last season. The 6'4" 253-pound Uzomah signed with Auburn after playing at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, GA.
Brian Vogler hauled in 2 passes for 21 yards during his sophomore season with the Tide. The 6'7" 260-pound Vogler signed with Alabama out of Brookstone High School in Columbus, GA.
The Mackey Award, named for NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey, is given annually to the nation's most outstanding collegiate tight end. Neither Alabama nor Auburn has had a player to win the award since its inception in 2000.
