A report is out today that Ireland is working on hosting a 2014 game between Penn State and Central Florida. The Irish publication The Journal is also reporting that Alabama could be making a trip across the pond as soon as 2016 and 2018 to play Notre Dame. The opponent for the Tide would be a familiar one. Alabama and Notre Dame have played seven times with the Irish leading the series (5-2). The two recently meet in the Discover BCS National Championship; Alabama dominated the Irish 42-14.
College football is relatively new to Ireland with only a handful of games ever played there. Last season Notre Dame opened up with Navy in front of 48,000 at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
The site of the rumored Alabama-Notre Dame game is still in question. Notre Dame played Navy at Aviva Stadium, but Penn State will play in the older, but bigger Croke Park which seats 82,300.
