Teen survives 100-foot fall

ETOWAH COUNTY, AL -

A 14-year-old boy is alive after falling 100 feet from a ledge in west Etowah County.  The Sheriff's Office says the boy was walking with a group around 8:00 p.m. on Buzzard Rock Road when he slipped and fell down a steep embankment.

Multiple agencies responded to the location, including the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, West Etowah and Altoona volunteer fire departments, A-Med Ambulance Service, high angle rescue teams from Oneonta and Boaz fire departments and LifeSaver Helicopter were all at the scene. The teen was alert and speaking to responders. He was rescued early Thursday morning.

He was transported to a local hospital, and does not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
