Mississippi State Football Preview

Posted: Updated:

Mississippi State has been right on the cusps the past couple of years, but can Dan Mullen lead them over that hump? Last season the Bulldogs started 7-0, but returned to earth after being hammered by Alabama 38-7. They followed that loss by losing four out of their next five games. Besides Chad Bumphis, Johnthan Banks, and Darius Slay the Bulldogs return a lot of talent. Quarterback Tyler Russell has all the tools, but seems to lack a little in the accuracy department. I also like running back LaDarius Perkins to once again rush for over a thousand yards.

The schedule is a lot tougher in 2013 with a big season opener versus Oklahoma State. If the Bulldogs make it past the Cowboys, then it will give them tons of momentum for the season. I still think it will be very difficult for State to match last year's 8 win total.

Defense: 5

Special Teams: 1
