Friday night, Destiny Covenant Church in Tarrant held a forum called "Let's Talk about It". The discussion centered on the George Zimmerman trial and how Trayvon Martin's death could have been avoided.
Cedric Brown, the pastor of Destiny Covenant Church, said the outcome of the Zimmerman trial set up an important discussion in the Black community.
"What I wanted to do is address with our children how to protect themselves in a society that may devalue them, that might misjudge them, that might misinterpret their actions," said Brown.
Friday night's forum addressed what steps Black youth could take if ever faced with a situation similar to Trayvon Martin's. Aaron Brown attended the forum and talked about what he's learned from this case.
"I feel that Trayvon could have done more to get away and not to confront, you know to call the police," he said.
Friday's forum also focused on having a conversation about the racial divide in America. Pastor Brown said it's important to continue this conversation.
"Until we start talking to each other, and not at each other and about each other, there will never be change," he said.
Destiny Covenant Church said they're planning on having more forums like this in the future.
