Homewood homicide victim identified as pastor's wife

Posted: Updated:
HOMEWOOD, AL -

The woman whose body was found in a Homewood house yesterday, was the wife of a local pastor.

Police found 52-year-old Karen Louise Shahan dead in her home, in the 100 block of Hugh Circle.

The First Baptist Church of Birmingham confirmed that Shahan's husband, the Rev. Richard Shahan, is the Children and Families pastor and facilities director at the church.

Authorities say officers went to the church-owned house on Hugh Circle because they had been asked to check on her.

Investigators say evidence at the scene suggests Shahan was the victim of a homicide.

People, some who did not want to give us their names, are telling the church community to stay strong in this time.

"I would just say stick together stand strong in your faith. Continue to pray and be there for each other.. And support one another in this time," one well-wisher said.

"God paints everybody with the same brush. It happens in a well-established community. It's called life," another person added.

We'll update this story with new information as it is confirmed. Stay tuned to Alabama's 13 and alabamas13.com for updates.
