HOMEWOOD, AL -

A local minister has been released from jail after being held in connection with his wife's murder.

Richard Shahan left the Homewood City Jail Friday night.

Police found the body of 52-year-old Karen Shahan in her Homewood home about two weeks ago.

Shahan, the victim's husband, is an associate pastor at the First Baptist Church of Birmingham.

Wednesday, Richard Shahan went to the Homewood Police Department to speak with detectives. Based on that interview, detectives decided to hold Shahan overnight.

On Thursday afternoon, the Homewood Police Department released the following statement:

"Richard Shahan came to the Homewood Police Department on 8-7-2013 voluntarily to speak with detectives. He is currently being held for investigative purposes at the Homewood City Jail. At this time, he has not been charged with any crime."

A representative with First Baptist Church of Birmingham said they've decided not to comment on the situation at this time.
