Starting Alabama linebacker Trey DePriest has been suspended for a violation of team rules.
DePriest started 12 games last season and was the second leading tackler with 56 tackles, 29 of which were solo.
"It's almost like raising our kids," Saban said. "If you are going to spank them and it doesn't change their behavior, why spank them? If you can take their computer or cell phone away from them and it changes their behavior then I would say then that's the thing to do."
Saban added that DePriest could return to the team in "short order" if he does the things that are asked of him to do.
"He made a mistake, he didn't do the right thing, it wasn't a very smart thing to do, and there has to be consequences sometimes when you don't do the right things."
Other news from the Capstone is standout wide receiver Amari Cooper wore a black non-contact jersey today. Cooper is dealing with a strained foot and will be day to day.
