Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson confirmed Monday night that Tigers' defensive end Dee Ford will miss the August 31 season opener after suffering a knee injury in Auburn's first scrimmage of fall camp.
Johnson said he expects the senior from Odenville, AL to be out an extended period of time, although he didn't know how long. Johnson did say Ford's ligament damage in his left knee would not require surgery.
Ford was expected to be an immediate impact on the Tigers defense in 2013 after leading that unti with six sacks in 2012.
Auburn opens the season at home vs. Washington State on Saturday August 31. ESPNU will broadcast that 6pm CT game.
