The University of Alabama at Birmingham is ready to officially open the doors to its newly renovated part of the UAB Cancer Center.
This Friday, August 23, 2013, UAB will celebrate the public grand opening of the Lurleen B. Wallace Tumor Institute (WTI).
Originally built in 1975, the WTI is the hub of the Cancer Center's research and administrative endeavors.
A $30 million renovation began in 2010 to modernize and enhance the building.
New additions include larger and more open lab space, a new front door, and an Advanced Imaging Facility (AIF) that includes a new cyclotron and state-of-the-art PET imaging equipment.
The WTI is a 6-story building, and includes a two-story lobby with a glass front at street level, an atrium, and is a total of 155,500 square feet.
