A five year old Jasper girl was playing with another child yesterday evening when she was viciously attacked by a pit bull.
The attack happened near the girl's home on Preston Avenue in Jasper.
A nearby neighbor saw the attack and rushed to rescue the girl.
According to Jasper police chief Connie Rowe, the child had to be airlifted to Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
Overnight, she received surgery to close a wound on her head.
She is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
The pit bull who attacked this child has been quarantined.
We do know the owner of this dog is fully cooperating with police.
