911 tapes released of crash of UPS 1354 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL -

The 911 recordings of the crash of UPS Flight 1354 were released Tuesday.

The Birmingham Police Department released the audio recordings of witnesses who called 911, describing the plane crash to 911 operators.

The Birmingham Police Department said eight 911 calls were made pertaining to the crash. The calls came in to their communications unit between 4:48 and 5:19 a.m.

Some people reported hearing a sound, then crash, and then the flaming wreckage of a plane, near the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

The UPS cargo plane crashed just before 5 a.m. on Aug. 14.

Two pilots were the only people on board, and both were killed in the crash.

The NTSB continues their investigation into the crash, but in its final news briefing in Birmingham, the NTSB says nothing appeared to be wrong with the aircraft.
