For the eighth straight season, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn will work with an eighth different starting quarterback.
The first-year head coach named junior college transfer Nick Marshall his starter ten days ago.
Malzahn said he looks to expand the game plan with Marshall each week, but will know more about his quarterback after Saturday's season opener.
"This will be the first quarterback we've had that didn't go through spring," Malzahn said. "We named him the starter because we felt he was comfortbale.
"We feel like he will get more comfortbable, better each game," Malzahn said. "From a coaching standpoint, we have to protect him. Ask him to do things that we feel like he's comfortbable with and don't ask things he's not comfortbable."
But who will Marshall throw to? Malzahn said he's still trying to find a go-to receiver. The three best candidates, Quan Bray, Jaylon Denson or Sammie Coates.
