The Samford football team held its final full practice in preparation for Friday night's season-opening game at Georgia State in the Georgia Dome, with an hour-long workout in shorts and helmets Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
Samford will do so without its head coach, Pat Sullivan. Sullivan is still recovering from a cervical fusion procedure done in July.
The Bulldogs have a chance to make history. The team has never won a game against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent. The Panthers enter just their fourth full season of football.
Samford is also looking to start the season off with a win for the second year in a row. Last season, the Bulldogs defeated Furman, 24-21, to open the season.
