Eight elementary school students experienced overheating at McAdory Elementary School today.
Jefferson County Board of Education Spokesperson Nez Calhoun confirmed that after running in physical education class today, two children were transported to Children's Hospital.
Six were also sent home after overheating.
Calhoun said students were doing a practice for the multi-stage aerobic test, part of the state fitness test required by the state of Alabama. Children were running the width of the gym to get baseline data to compare the test against.
Students are asked to run to the best of their ability, Calhoun explained.
The Board of Education is still awaiting more information on the students transported to the hospital.
