The breakout sessions at the 2013 ALS Symposium also included various health care professionals experienced with ALS patient care.

The event's keynote speaker was Lucie Bruijn, Ph. D., who spoke about the research initiative Translational Research to Advance Therapies for ALS.

ALS is an acronym for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which is a fatal, neuromuscular disease that affects 350,000 people worldwide every year.
