Many school students in Birmingham got a special delivery Wednesday.
The Better Basics organization began efforts to deliver 16,762 books to 2nd and 4th graders in schools that participate in the Ready 2 Read and other programs.
An Alabama's 13 News crew found several volunteers delivering boxes of books to students at Lewis Elementary in Birmingham just before lunch hour.
The Ready 2 Read program serves every 2nd grade classroom in Birmingham city schools.
The MORE program serves 4th grade students in Jefferson, Hale, and Clay county schools and Birmingham and Fairfield city elementary schools.
Elementary schools on the list for book deliveries are Tuggle, Avondale, Epic, Glen Iris, Hayes, Hudson, Inglenook, Lewis, Phillips, Washington, Barrett, Christian, Huffman, Martha Gaskin, Oliver, Robinson, Sun Valley, and Irondale.
Volunteers will be delivering books most of the day Wednesday and Thursday.
