Many students in Alabama joined tens of thousands worldwide in prayer Wednesday.
The 23rd annual See You at the Pole (SYATP) event for 2013 took place at many schools in the Birmingham area.
SYATP is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event, where students join before school, at the school's flagpole in prayer for their friends, families, school, city, state and nation.
This year's SYATP emphasis is "#IFTHEN," taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14 in the Bible.
"This year's theme message encourages us to pray, seek and turn to God, and He will hear our cries and forgive and heal us," said First Priority Greater Birmingham Executive Director Matt Wilson. "This year at See You at the Pole, we would like to encourage communities to converge together and take part in one of the largest prayer movements in our nation. Pray for our students, schools, nation and world. Ask God to reveal who He is to you and your community. Pray, seek and turn to God."
One gathering at Oak Mountain Middle School had students gathered to pray, sing, and listen to speakers.
SYATP started in 1990.
First Priority estimates 25,000-30,000 students across the Greater-Birmingham area particpiated in SYATP 2013.
