Due to the government shutdown, consumers are unable to register for the "do not call" list.
On the website, donotcall.gov, the following message is posted: "Due to the Government shutdown, we are unable to offer this website service at this time. We will resume normal operations when the government is funded."
The National Do Not Call Registry is intended to give U.S. consumers an opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls they receive.
The government shutdown has prevented the Federal Trade Commission from processing FOIA requests, consumers cannot file complaints or register for Do Not Call, and all public workshops, roundtables hearings and conferences are postponed until further notice.
"President Barack Obama is blaming House Speaker John Boehner for the ongoing shutdown of the federal government," according to the Associated Press. "Obama says Boehner could get a temporary funding bill passed free of extra provisions aimed at gutting the health care law but he says the speaker is afraid of angering "extremists" in the Republican party. House Republicans are criticizing the president and Democrats for refusing to negotiate over the health care law."
