BLOG: Top 10 College Football Games of Week 6

Posted: Updated:

Week six doesn't look like the best week for SEC football, but there are some really big games going on up north and out west.

Here are the top ten games of week six:

10. #6 Georgia at Tennessee – 2:30 p.m. CBS

Will the Bulldogs have a hangover after their big win over LSU?  Can the Vols make a game of this in Knoxville?

9. Georgia Tech at #14 Miami – 2:30 p.m. ESPN-U

It's a big conference game for both schools. Another loss for Georgia Tech and their hopes of winning the Coastal are done. Miami is looking to win the Coastal for the 1st time since joining the ACC. A win over Tech will be a big statement for the Hurricanes defense.

8. Missouri at Vanderbilt – 6:30 p.m. CSS

How big is this for Mizzou? The Tigers are 4-0 and a win over Vanderbilt would give them a ton of confidence heading into a showdown with Georgia.  Vandy enters a bye week after this game, but following the bye the Dores get Georgia and Texas A&M.

7. West Virginia at #17 Baylor – 7:00 p.m. Fox Sports 1

Hello Mountaineers! Who had West Virginia beating Oklahoma State? This was supposed to be a down year for Dana Holgorsen's West Virginia team, but they could match or top last year's win total. Outside of the 37-0 loss at Maryland, the Mountaineers have looked decent. Meanwhile, Baylor has looked unstoppable, and is becoming a true contender. This should be a high scoring shootout.

6. #22 Arizona State at Notre Dame – 6:30 p.m. Alabama's 13

The Sun Devils have been one of the most impressive teams so far this season. On the flipside Notre Dame has clearly taken a step backwards. Still though, a win on Saturday could flip the season for the Irish.

5. #24 Ole Miss at Auburn – 6:00 p.m. ESPN-U

This is a big SEC west showdown; the loser of this one will have two conference losses. Both teams are looking to bounce back after falling short in their last outing. Ole Miss was shutout last week at top ranked Alabama. Auburn is coming off a bye week, but they suffered a loss at LSU two weeks ago. Both teams run a similar, up-tempo, fast paced style of offense, and I think both teams will put points on the board. This game might come down to who has the ball last.

4. #12 UCLA at Utah – Thursday 9:00 p.m. Fox Sports 1

Big Thursday night matchup between unbeaten UCLA and one loss Utah. Both teams are also coming off of a bye week. On paper UCLA should win the game easily and their QB Brett Hundley is playing at a high level. Still, Utah is no pushover and could make it an interesting Thursday night game in Salt Lake City.

3. #25 Maryland at #8 Florida State – 11:00 a.m. ESPN

Separating the contender from the pretender…

Is Maryland for real? How good is Florida State? Those questions will be answered on Saturday.

2. #15 Washington at #5 Stanford – 9:30 p.m. ESPN

This is another contender or pretender game. How good are the Washington Huskies? The next two weeks will tell it all for Washington. They have the chance to rock the PAC12 this weekend at Stanford, and next weekend they can rock the college football world when they host Oregon. This will also be a telling game for Stanford. The Cardinal hasn't been challenged much this season. They hammered Arizona State and Washington State the last two weeks, but neither of those teams provided much of a test. This is a late night game, but I think it will be worth losing a few zzz's over.

1. #4 Ohio State at #16 Northwestern – 7:00 p.m. ABC

The last contender or pretender game comes from BIG10. Ohio State has the countries longest winning streak, but that will all be on the line at Northwestern this weekend. Both teams are unbeaten, and really neither team has been challenged. Nothing changes as far as the college football landscape if Ohio State wins, but a win for Northwestern really upsets the apple cart.
