TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL -

Some equipment went airborne at the Mercedes-Benz plant site in Vance Friday.

Harbert Construction conducted a helicopter lift with 18 rooftop air conditioning units on top of the Mercedes-Benz Logistics Center in Tuscaloosa County.

Each AC unit weighed about 3 tons each.

Crews on the ground connected four hooks to each AC unit, and the pilots in the helicopter lifted and guided the units to a designated spot on top of the building.

The Mercedes-Benz Logistics Center is located next to the automotive plant, and is about 75 % complete.

Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2013.

The 900,000-square-foot facility is designed to streamline logistics operations and support the receiving, handling and sequencing of parts to support the plant's current and future products.
