The college football gridlock started to breakup last week when Stanford, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Georgia all lost. This week we know at least one top five team will fall, but it could be another week of upsets.
Here are the top ten games of week eight:
10. #16 Texas Tech at West Virginia – 11:00 a.m. Fox Sports 1
The Red Raiders are flying under the radar at
6-0, but Morgantown can be a tricky place to play.
9. #10 Miami at North Carolina – Thursday 6:30 p.m. ESPN
Are the Hurricanes legit? I think so, but North Carolina is having a blackout in Chapel Hill calling it Zero Dark Thursday…
It's worth a watch on a Thursday night.
8. #20 Washington at Arizona State – 5:00 p.m. PAC12 Network
Washington (4-2) and Arizona State (4-2) are very solid 2 loss teams. The looser of this one might as well kiss the PAC12 Championship hopes goodbye and start to fall down the bowl projection ladder.
7. UCF at #8 Louisville – Friday 7:00 p.m. ESPN
Not many test left on Louisville's weak AAC schedule. The Black Knights have only lost one game this season and gave South Carolina all they wanted.
Louisville not only needs to win this game, but they need to put up some big style points.
6. USC at Notre Dame – 6:30 p.m. Alabama's 13
Rory Orgeron has changed the mindset at UCS and has the Trojans playing loose. I don't think he can win the USC job, but Coach "O" could use this last half of the season to land another head coaching job somewhere. Notre Dame on the other hand has been a tricky team to predict and should be rested after a bye week.
Regardless, this is a rivalry game, and should be pretty entertaining.
5. #6 LSU at Ole Miss – 6:00 p.m. ESPN2
The Rebels have hit a road block; flash back to mid September and Ole Miss was unbeaten and coming off a big win over Texas. Flash forward and the Rebels have lost three games and it doesn't get any easier this week.
Will be interesting to see if Ole Miss can right the ship, or will LSU pour on more water.
4. #22 Florida at #14 Missouri – 11:21 a.m. SEC Network
Yes Missouri is the leader of the SEC East…Yes Missouri controls their destiny…but everything comes with a price and that price is their starting quarterback James Franklin who's out 3-5 weeks with a shoulder injury. Maty Mauk now has to try and lead the Tigers past a very good Florida defense. It will also be a very physical test for the Tigers.
The good news for Missouri is Florida is horrific on offense and has lost their starting running back Matt Jones for the season.
3. #24 Auburn at #7 Texas A&M – 2:30 p.m. CBS
This will be a big SEC West shootout! Texas A&M has the top offense in the SEC, but Auburn boast the top rushing attack in the league. Neither have team has a great defense, but the Aggies are just plain bad on defense.
Auburn is a two touchdown underdog, but should have punchers chance, and it might come down to who has the ball last.
2. #9 UCLA at #13 Stanford – 2:30 p.m. ABC/ESPN 2
Another week, another big PAC12 showdown. Stanford is looking to bounce back from their upsetting loss at Utah, while UCLA looks to stay unbeaten.
The sky will be the limit for the Bruins if they pick up a win at Stanford. As for the Cardinal, another loss would be a major setback.
1. #5 Florida State at #3 Clemson – 7:00 p.m. ABC
You want a playoff game in college football? Here you go!
The looser is out of the BCS Title picture, and the winner will start making their case for why they deserve to be in Pasadena. What else is there to say?
