A homeowner in Midfield shot and killed an intruder who broke into his house last night.
According to Sgt. Jesse Bell, the homeowner heard a noise and went to investigate around 10 p.m. yesterday. He then saw a man in his kitchen, standing by his refrigerator. He shot the intruder, who had entered the residence by kicking in the front door.
The police have taken several reports concerning theft from the homeowners before, and a nearby resident said she has had problems with theft, too. Jeanette Brooks, who has lived in the neighborhood for 26 years, said that she has had everything stolen out of her yard, and she cannot even put Christmas decorations in her yard without them being taken.
"It's gone from nobody ever bothering you to every time you turn around something's missing out of your yard or house," Brooks said.
Eddie Alexander lives next door to where the incident took place and heard the gun shots last night. Alexander said he would have reacted the same way as the homeowner did in this situation.
"My reaction would have been the same. You don't know what's going on these days, and if you were intruding my home, you get what you got coming to you," he said.
The police believe the suspect lived around the area, and they do not know if the suspect was armed.
