Last Saturday was "Upset Saturday"; will this weekend bring more of the same?
Here are the top ten games of week nine:
10. Duke at #14 Virginia Tech – 2:30 p.m. ESPNU
The Duke Blue Devils are 5-2! Just one win away for a bowl berth. That's always a large feat for Duke.
Meanwhile, Va-Tech has been prefect since losing to top-ranked Alabama in week one. The Hokies also remain one of the top defensive team in college football.
9. #9 Clemson at Maryland – 2:30 p.m. ESPN
The question has to be asked, can they bounce back after a big loss? What's the mental state of the Clemson Tigers?
As for Maryland, they're trying to bounce back
from a bad 34-10 loss at Wake Forest. Ouch.
8. N.C. State at #2 Florida State – 2:30 p.m. ABC
Flashback…2012 Florida State is unbeaten and in the middle of the BCS National Championship picture, until N.C. State derailed that dream. Here we are again, but this time it's at Tallahassee, and N.C. State has lost 3 of their last 4 games. Also Hueytown native "Famous Jameis" wasn't on the field last season.
7. Tennessee at #1 Alabama – 2:30 p.m. CBS
Once upon a time, a Tennessee team lead by a new head coach almost upset a top ranked Bama team. I'm talking about the last time the Vols had life back in 2009 when Lane Kiffin had them believing before the Tide blocked two field goals in the 4th quarter. New head coach Butch Jones has the Vols believing again, but can keep they close in Tuscaloosa?
6. Boise State at BYU – Friday 7:00 p.m. ESPN
Both of these teams are 5-2, and a win would not only make them bowl eligible, but back to being a top 25 type team. Both have been hot teams as of late. BYU has won their last four, while Boise has won their last three.
5. Penn State at #4 Ohio State – 7:00 p.m. ABC
You have to be impressed with the incredible job Bill O'Brien has done at Penn State. He's not just winning games, but he's keeping the Lion relevant. A big reason has been the play of freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg.
Ohio State has done nothing but win games. You have to go back to January 2nd of 2012 for the last time the Buckeyes lost a game.
4. #10 Texas Tech at #15 Oklahoma – 2:30 p.m. FOX
The Red Raiders are 7-0, but will they be the next unbeaten team to fall? A win over the #15 ranked Sooners would be huge for first year head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and set up big time games with Oklahoma State and Baylor.
This game also has huge implications for Oklahoma, and their chances at earning a spot in a BCS Bowl. The Sooners have one conference loss, and a second would completely put them out of the Big12 race.
3. #6 Stanford at #25 Oregon State – 9:30 p.m. ESPN
How about this late night matchup?
Oregon State is finally back in the polls after being punished for their week one loss to Eastern Washington. Their quarterback Sean Mannion has been lights out, and a true Heisman contender.
Stanford is the top ranked 1 loss team, and is likely to earn a BSC at-large bid. But that all goes down the drain if they lose to Oregon State.
2. #21 South Carolina at #5 Missouri – 6:00 p.m. ESPN 2
The Missouri Tigers have a two game lead on everyone in the SEC East! Who saw that coming? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller…I know, I didn't. A win over South Carolina, and the Tigers faithful might be able to start making those reservations in Atlanta.
The Gamecocks will need to upset Mizzou if they want to have any hope of making it to the SEC Championship. A third SEC loss would be too much, and would equal a disappoint season for the Gamecocks.
1. #12 UCLA at #3 Oregon – 6:00 p.m. ESPN
This might not be the only time this season that we see this game. Both UCLA and Oregon are on track meet backup in the PAC12 Championship. But a loss for UCLA could put them behind Arizona State in the South standings.
Does Oregon need a big win now that FSU has passed them in the BCS Poll? I think it will work it's self out, but the fan in Eugene have to be a little nervous.
