The Blazers made a change at quarterback during their 52-31 loss at Texas San Antonio, and that change will continue on Saturday when the Blazers host Middle Tennessee State for homecoming.
Jonathan Perry will take over the starting duties for Austin Brown. Last Saturday at UTSA, Perry came off the bench and threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns.
On the season Perry has completed %50 of his passes for 455 yards and 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Brown on the season has completed %54.4 of his passes for 1,199 yards and 9 touchdowns with 3 interceptions.
"Jonathan (Perry) will start the game," UAB head coach Garrick McGee said today at his weekly press conference. "He has practiced well and played really well in the game (against UTSA). He brought something to the table that we had not seen. I am really proud of him because he maintained a positive attitude, kept pressing forward, and when there was an opportunity for him he took advantage of it."
Perry, a 5th senior has quietly waited behind Austin Brown after losing the starting job last season. "His personality and maturity has grown and is unbelievable. He is one of the leaders of the team. He is willing to do whatever he has to do to help the team go in the right direction. He has been around a long time. He understands how things are and how things have been. He is an example to our young people. This kid has handled himself very well. It's great to see a kid with this kind of attitude deliver and take advantage of his opportunity."
UAB will host Middle Tennessee State for homecoming at 12:00 p.m.
