A Trussville man is behind bars after the burglary of a home with an 11-year-old girl inside yesterday afternoon.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the burglary took place around 4 p.m. yesterday in the 2500 block of Hampstead Drive in Grayson Valley. A neighbor reported the home being broken into, as well as the girl running away.
They say the suspect was seen taking items from the first home to another residence nearby.
Deputies took 24-year-old Jesse Alan Carroll into custody at the second residence, and were able to recover two laptops and a flat screen television that had been stolen.
The suspect unsuccessfully tried to pick locks on his handcuffs with a paper clip while in custody at the Center point substation.
Carroll was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree theft of property and third-degree escape. He's being held in the Jefferson County in lieu of $42,000 bond.
The girl went to a neighbor's house until the suspect was captured.
