A Calhoun County teenager is behind bars after allegedly pressuring a disabled classmate into having sex with him.
According to Calhoun County authorities, the 17-year-old was arrested Friday after being accused of raping and sodomizing a classmate earlier this month.
They say he convinced his classmate to skip school, then pressured her into having sex. He admitted that he used the victim's disability to his advantage -- the victim suffers from a brain injury.
A teenager victimizing another teenager is not the typical profile for rape cases. But Joe Nabors with the Calhoun-Cleburne Children's Center says it's something being seen more often across the country.
"As we see a change throughout society and a lot of things on the internet, a lot of things we see know where children are becoming more knowledgeable about sexual activity though the media, television, and other things. We're seeing younger and younger children committing child on child crimes," he said.
The suspect is being charged as a juvenile. He faces one count each of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy.
