The Shelby County Health Summit focused today on promoting healthy living among Alabamians. The day-long event showcased different things going on across the state to promote health.
It also served as a way for officials from schools and communities to network regarding healthcare.
The Alabama Obesity Taskforce used the event to launch their "Re-Think Your Drink" campaign -- a year-long campaign focused on trying to get people to make healthy choices when they decide what to drink.
"Rethinking those liquid calories, just letting people know that small changes can make a big difference when it comes to healthier choices," said Sheena Gregg, chair of the Alabama Obesity Task Force.
They also looked at ways to help young people and families live a healthier lifestyle, as well.
"We are wanting to empower families to know that they can make changes at the family level, certainly it happens at the schools and in the communities but it happens first in the homes," Gregg said.
Today's speakers included Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice.
