Former Chelsea High School teacher pleads guilty after "sexting" student; receives suspended sentence

SHELBY COUNTY, AL -

A former Chelsea High School social studies teacher accused of "sexting" a student has pleaded guilty and agreed to a suspended jail sentence.

According to court documents, John Martin Noles, 36, of Hoover, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of having sexual contact with a student younger than 19 years old. 

Noles was sentenced to a one-year suspended jail sentence. Instead, he'll serve two years of supervision by Community Correction, as well as a total of $1,413 in fines and court costs. He's also required to surrender his teaching certification, participate in counseling, register as a sex offender, and have no contact with the student.

Arrest warrants accused him of sending text messages with sexual content and pictures of his genitals to a student under 19.
