BIRMINGHAM, AL -

Dr. Bert Gaddis, The Pet Vet warns pet owners about some dangerous jerky treats which have killed hundreds of dogs.

The FDA has cautioned about potential issues with chicken jerky treats which have been associated with about 600 deaths. Brands from China are of particular concern.

Symptoms of illness are vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, increased water consumption and urination.

Treatment is based on signs and lab results.

Pet owners can help prevent their pets from getting sick by limiting use of jerky treats.  These should never be a significant portion of a pet's diet.
