Harris County takes momentum into the playoffs

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON, Ga. -

The Harris County Tigers are still fueled in practice by their come from behind win against Thomas County Central on Friday. It proved that this team could be a force in the playoffs.

"Friday night is a great testament of that. We were down 35-23 going into the 4th quarter. We were able to come out on top. That is a testament to these kids here. They never give up. We like to think that is because of how we practice," said Harris County coach Tommy Parks."

"I was excited. I was real excited that we won. I cried a little bit. I'm not going to lie," said defensive end Key Hicks.

For the second straight year, the Tigers are hosting a playoff game. The home field is nice, but that doesn't mean the weather will be.

One thing to watch on Friday: this is a pretty open field here at Harris County. If it is windy like it was Monday, expect to see a lot of running.

That would alright with running back Esaias Chapman. He says last Friday's performance cemented a team swagger that elevated them to a win.

"We had that coming into the game. I'm trying to keep my lineman ready and pumped up. We say: 'these guys ain't nothing.' That is what we kept doing. It was easy to score on them," Chapman said.

This week, it is win or go home.

"We thought we were going to match up with Richmond Hill. The way it came out as far as points go, we drew Glynn Academy. We just focus on the next opponent," said Parks

The Tigers' defense wants to be so physical that Glynn Academy still hurts on Saturday morning

"I want them to feel like, when they wake up in the morning, did I just go to war? Did I just get in a carwreck? I want them to feel like they did something last night," Hicks said.

News 3's Friday Night Tailgate tour is going to Harris County Friday. We will broadcast live from Harris County High School. We invite you to come tailgate with us as we prepare for the playoff game.
