Georgia ready for Tiger runners; Lynch, Conley practice

ATHENS, Ga. -

The script is almost totally flipped for the 2013 edition of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry.

While Georgia came in a year ago and obliterated an overmatched Auburn team, in 2013 it's the Tigers that are riding high, 9-1 overall, while Georgia is clinging to a faint hope of an SEC East title.

"Just prepare like every other week," said head coach Mark Richt, of how he approaches this game. "You find out their strengths and weaknesses, just like any other position across the board, you try to get the best plan, then you go play."

Georgia sits third in the East, 4-2 in conference and 6-3 overall, winners of two straight after handling Appalachian State at home. To make it three, they will have to slow down the nation's third-best running attack.

"It's going to be about staying in your gap, defeating your block, playing the right kind of leverage, being able to tackle, being able to get a guy on the ground," Richt said. "[You have to be] disciplined enough to where, if they have some kind of play-action pass, which they will, and they're going to take a shot deep, that you're not just totally out of position because you're so honed in on playing the run."

Georgia has the fourth-best rush defense in the conference, allowing just 126 yards per game.

The ‘Dogs also hope to get tight end Arthur Lynch and wide receiver Chris Conley back from injury.

"We're getting guys back, but they have also missed a lot of practice time," said offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. "Artie (Arthur Lynch) looked good out there today moving around. Chris was doing some things on the side. I think he's still questionable, and it will probably be a game-time decision. If he's able to go, it would give us a boost."
