Below you'll find a list of holiday events happening from now until Christmas in and around the Triangle.

Durham County

  • Duke Chorale Christmas Concert: This concert features seasonal selections by the Duke Chorale as well as traditional carols for the entire audience to sing and stories and special treats for the children. This family holiday event is a long-standing tradition for many area residents. Admission is one non-perishable food item for needy families in Durham. Dec. 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Duke University Chapel on Science Drive.

  • Durham Holiday Fun Fest: Mark the beginning of the holiday season at Durham's Holiday Fun Fest. There will be a host of activities and events for the entire family. Holiday Fun Fest is Dec. 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Durham Central Park. It's free and open to the public.
  • Christmas by Candlelight: Celebrate an 1870 Christmas during evening tours of the Duke Homestead. The tour features period decorations, caroling, dances, hot apple cider, and other goodies. The event is Dec. 6 and 13 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Duke Homestead State Historic Site. It's free but donations are accepted.
                                                                                                              
  • Jingle Bell LEAP: The 2nd Annual Jingle Bell LEAP is a non competitive 5k Walk/Run around Duke's East Campus that benefits the Latino Educational Achievement Partnership (LEAP). LEAP provides pre-K education and after school tutoring to Durham's Latino community. The event is Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 
  • A Christmas Carol: This year marks the 39th anniversary year of Ira David Wood III's beloved musical comedy adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The show has been performed annually since 1974 and has been named one of the "Top 20 Events in the Southeast." Cited as "one of the most successful shows in North Carolina theatre history," A Christmas Carol has enjoyed critically acclaimed tours to England and France. Durham shows will be held Dec. 19 and 22.

Harnett County

  • Dunn's Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on Dec. 5.

Johnston County

  • Wilson's Mills Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m.
  • Archer Lodge Christmas Tree Lighting will be Sunday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.
  • The Kenly Christmas Tree Lighting will be on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m.
  • Smithfiled will hold its Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Clayton's Main Street comes alive with live music, business open house, live nativity and the traditional tree-lighting in Town Square on Dec. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Benson's Christmas On Main will be held on Friday, December 6th beginning with entertainment in Benton Square at 6:00pm, followed by the Tree Lighting at 6:00pm and the Christmas Parade at 6:40pm.
  • Four Oaks Christmas Celebration will begin on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 12 p.m. with entertainment in Barbour's Grove Park followed by the Christmas Parade at 4:30pm and the Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m.

Orange County

  • The Carolina Inn's 12 Days of Christmas: The event is from Dec. 1-31 and features festive meals, music, horse-drawn carriage rides and more. Decorations will be on display from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. A complete schedule and list of prices can be found here.
  • Chapel Hill Holiday Tree Lighting: Downtown will kick off the season with the community tree lighting in the Memorial Garden of University Baptists Church on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
  • Chapel Hill Holiday Concert: Get in the holiday spirit with new takes on old favorites performed by The Gathering Church band. The concert is free and takes place at the corner garden at University Baptist Church on Columbia St. The event is Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Carolina Ballet's "The Nutcracker": Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at UNC Memorial Hall on East Cameron Ave. Tickets start at $49.
  • Hillsborough's Christmas tree lighting event will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6.

Wake County

  • Wendell's Christmas lights "Wendell Wonderland" display opens Nov. 19 in historic downtown Wendell. Wendell Wonderland is one of the state's largest Christmas light displays with over 250,000 lights.
  • The Annual Lighting of Wendell Historical Town Square is on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
  • Wake Forest will officially kick off the holiday season with the Lighting of Wake Forest on Friday, December 6th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The event features the lighting of the town's 30-foot Christmas tree by Mayor Vivian Jones, followed by the eagerly anticipated arrival of Jolly Old St. Nick.
  • Celebrations begin with the Heart of Cary's 10th annual Ole Time Winter Festival held on West Chatham Street in Downtown Cary. Festival goers can enjoy arts & crafts, entertainment, food, activities and more. Santa will be there.  The fun starts on Saturday Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.
  • The official Christmas Tree lighting for the Town of Cary will be on Dec. 7 as well. The event starts at 7 p.m.
  • Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Fayetteville Street will be beaming with sparkling lights as festival goers gather to enjoy outdoor festivities, including the signature ice skating rink and downtown Raleigh's beloved tradition of the official Mayor's holiday tree lighting, which will take place at 7 p.m.
  • Santa visits the Rolesville Chamber Office from 3 p.m. to 5:30 on Dec. 8.
