Auburn High preps for rematch with Carver Wolverines

Posted: Updated:
AUBURN, Ala. -

Spirits are high at Auburn practice as the Tigers get ready for their rematch with the Carver Wolverines.

"Same players- they may be playing a little bit better football, a little bit cleaner football," said Auburn coach Tim Carter. "They have definitely improved. But, it is a very similar rematch between the same two teams."

"I think we just have to get our mind right. If we get our mind right, it is just another team. It is the same team. But, it is just another game. We just have to beat them. That's all," said Auburn kicker Sage Ledbetter.

Earlier this year, Auburn beat Carver by 18 points.  But, the second time around can get tricky.

This is the exact same position Auburn found themselves in last year, playing a quarterfinal game against a region opponent that they have already beaten.

It was Opelika last year that stunned the Tigers. One weapon Auburn has this year that they could have used then: kicker Sage Ledbetter.

"Sage has done a great job all year long being accurate and being consistent. He is a good young player with a good young leg," Carter said.

Ledbetter kicked five field goals in a game earlier in the season. He says he kicked a 62 yarder in practice. And he is confident enough to predict the Tigers will win the state title.

"Oh, of course. No doubt in my mind. I have one hundred percent confidence that we're going to. I'm calling the shot," said Ledbetter.

The WRBL Friday night tailgate will be at Auburn High School on Friday night starting at 4 Central time.
