Phil hands out free turkeys in Clayton to those in need

Posted: Updated:
CLAYTON, N.C. -

There are people in need all year-long, but the holiday season is a special time that brings out the generosity in people.

For the latest installment of "Phil Fills In," WNCN's Phil Sanchez travels to Clayton to help Butterball hand out free turkeys to those in need.

While passing out turkeys at the Clayton Area Ministries, Phil quickly learned the true meaning of giving thanks.

"Thanksgiving is a time of celebration a time of family; it's a great time to help those in need," said Kerry Doughty, vice president of Butterball Sales.

That's why Clayton native and major league pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, Chris Archer, helped organize this special event.

"When Butterball presented the opportunity to donate a hundred turkeys in my hometown, I had to jump on it," Archer said.

Butterball has held similar turkey giveaways in several communities across North Carolina.
