Adopted Morrisville diver has dreams of Olympic gold

MORRISVILLE, N.C. -

Just two months ago, Jordan Windle won a gold medal at the Junior Pan Am games in Arizona. That accomplishment has the 15-year-old dreaming of Olympic gold.

Windle's journey to winning gold in Arizona is a unique one. He was adopted from Cambodia by two men when he was just 2 years old.

"I'm happy I was adopted because I could have been any one of those kids back there wasn't adopted," Windle said. "I'm definitely fortunate for my dad. … I have two dads. Love is love and that's all that counts."

The walls in Jordan's bedroom in Morrisville are covered with more than 150 medals. His rise in diving began at the age of 6 when a prominent swimming coach, Nunzio Esposto, recognized the characteristics Windle possessed that are common in a star diver.

Esposto coached Olympic medalist and Duke diver, Nick McCrory.

Windle's dad, Jerry, said Esposto noticed characteristics in Windle that reminded him of Greg Louganis.

"I don't know if I've encountered anyone, other than Nick McCrory, that has caught my eye like this," Esposto said.

Windle practices six hours a day, five days a week in order to maybe one day earn an Olympic medal.

"I'd like to say I got a medal at the Olympics," he said.

Esposto said that is a real possibility.

"I think it's very viable that in 2020, Jordan Windle will be a medalist at the Olympics," Esposto said.

All of this began with a father looking for a son to build a family around.

"The world would not have gotten to know this amazing young man first of all and this amazing diving talent, had we not adopted him," Jerry Windle said. "So, I feel really blessed to have him as my son."
