Malzahn: "I'm tickled to death to be the head coach of the Auburn Tigers"

AUBURN, Ala. -

On the one-year anniversary of being hired at Auburn, head coach Gus Malzahn responded to reports that he'd rather be someplace else.

On Tuesday, a Sports Illustrated report cited "unnamed sources" that said Malzahn has called the University of Texas his "dream job."

Wednesday after practice, he was asked his response.

"Response is I'm tickled to death to be the head coach of the Auburn Tigers," Malzahn said.

The next coach at Texas has been the source of much debate all season, though current head coach Mack Brown is still employed. He is in his 16th season with the Longhorns, and after early season struggles has guided them to an 8-3 record and the no. 23 ranking in the country.

Meanwhile, Malzahn was asked during the Nov. 7 "Tiger Talk" program if he had a "dream job":

"This is a dream job for me, there's no doubt," he said on Nov. 7. "The fact that I was here for three years before as the coordinator and be able to come back as a head coach is really something special."

Malzahn has guided the Tigers to the biggest turnaround in college football, from 3-9 (0-8) last season to 11-1 (7-1), the no. 3 ranking in the country and playing for the SEC title on Saturday.

"I'm very blessed to be the head coach of the Auburn Tigers," Malzahn said after practice Wednesday. "I really appreciate the guys that gave me this opportunity that believed in me. It's been a lot of fun—a blessing—to coach this team. We're playing for the SEC championship, so it's been a good year."
