Just south of Jefferson County and at times minutes from the busiest parts of Birmingham, you'll find Shelby County. With a population of little more than 200,941, the county is fastest growing county, in terms of population, in the state of Alabama. The county seat is the City of Columbiana, known for it quiet and southern charm.

On the job front, the Alabama Department of Labor August 2013 data lists the county's unemployment rate at 4.3% which is significantly lower than that state's non-seasonally adjusted rate of 6.7%.
