AHSAA Super 6 Recap: Day Two

Hoover beats Auburn 20-3 for state title

Bradrick Shaw rushed for a touchdown and caught another as Hoover High School beat Auburn High School 20-3 in the AHSAA Class 6A state championship game in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
    
On a cold and rainy night, Hoover won its second consecutive state title and tenth overall, denying Auburn its first ever.
    
Shaw rushed for 53 yards on the night and caught a 39-yard touchdown from Jack Hutchenson in the third quarter that broke the game open.
    
Both teams combined for just 323 yards of offense.
    
Hoover opened the scoring with an Alex Elam blocked punt that was recovered in the end zone by Chris DeMoss.
    
Sage Ledbetter kicked a 35-yard field goal for the Tigers in the third quarter.
    
Shaw scored on the reception and on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Oneonta beats Charles Henderson 28-10 for 4A title

Avery Reid rushed for three touchdowns and Oneonta High School beat Charles Henderson High School 28-10 Friday in the Class 4A state championship game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
    
Reid scored on runs of 5, 2 and 4 yards to give the Redskins their fourth state title and first since 2004.
    
Terrell McDaniel added 163 rushing yards as Oneonta totaled 326 yards on the ground. Quarterback Ko Powell completed eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. The Oneonta defense forced four turnovers in the win.
    
Baylor Barnes kicked a 26-yard field goal for Charles Henderson in the second quarter, and John Johnson punched in a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth, but it was too late.
    
Oneonta capped the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Powell to Brock Latta late in the fourth quarter.

Tanner beats Washington County 21-13 for 2A title

Hayden Stephens rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns as Tanner High School beat Washington County High School 21-13 in the AHSAA Class 2A state championship game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
    
The Rattlers are state champions for the second time and second year in a row, beating Washington County both times.
    
The Bulldogs were trying to mount a game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter, but Deshun Freeman caught an interception that ended the comeback bid.
    
Stephens scored on runs of 45 yards and one yard, and Tiquaveious Mayberry added a one-yard touchdown run for the Rattlers.
    
Tanner racked up 209 total rushing yards and did not commit a penalty in the win.
