Marion County makes history, headed to state championship

Posted: Updated:

The Marion County Eagles made history simply by playing in the state semifinal game, and they made more history by winning it.

Marion County avenged a regular season loss in resounding fashion, handling Hawkinsville, 40-7, to earn a spot in the GHSA A state championship.

It will be the first state championship game appearance in school history.

In AAA, Callaway falls to top-ranked Buford, 24-14. Callaway led 14-7 at the half, and the 10-point margin of victory is the closest of the season for Buford.

The Cavaliers finish the season 12-2, setting a school record for wins.
