BIRMINGHAM, AL - Kmart in the Crestwood neighborhood of Birmingham is closing.

The store officially closed to customers last Sunday. Kmart announced they would close the Crestwood location back in September. Store manager, Tommy Stewart says this was unwelcome news for many.

"There was a lot of upset customers. They couldn't understand why. There was a lot of tears.”

This Kmart has been in the Crestwood community since 1967. Stewart says the store has worked hard to earn a loyal clientele base over the years.

“They liked our customer service. They liked everything that we did here. There just wasn't enough of them coming here helping us.”

The group most affected by the store closing is the 75 employees. Stewart says it’s a group that’s been dedicating and hard-working.

"The loyalty in this store is phenomenal. I've been in 18 different Kmart stores and out of all of them the employees here are all together. It's all family.”

Though these store employees have been disappointed and sad about the closing, Stewart says everyone is trying to stay positive.

"They know that it's going to work out for them and I know it will. There's a lot of intelligent people and that's loyal to the company.”

Stewart says there is some good news, 10% of the stores employees were able to be placed with other Kmart stores and several others have been able to find other jobs.

More than 94 million and climbing... that's how much the ALS Association has collected from its viral ice bucket challenge. That number changes daily. The ice bucket challenge is not for everyone and some disagree *where* you should donate your money.
