Central's Wright brings home 500th win

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Phenix City-Central head boys basketball coach Bobby Wright captured the 500th win of his career Friday night.

The milestone came thanks to a 90-56 victory over Jordan in the semifinals of the Shaw Christmas Tournament.

"This 500th win feels just like I'm ready to try for 501," Wright said. "I mean, I'm glad to reach this milestone and get it out of the way so we can go ahead and concentrate just on doing what we want to do, and that is try to win the area, have a chance to get to the playoffs."

Wright credited all his players over the years, as well as his coaching staff. He said neither he nor the players made a big deal of 500 leading up to the game.

"But after it was over they did."

Central will face Northside in the Shaw Tournament semifinals Monday night at 8:00 p.m. at Carver.
