Some of the coldest air, since January of 2010

First Cold Air Mass

Short term forecast: This weekend's cold air mass will pale in comparison to early next week's Polar cold. We've had mid 20's this season (Thanksgiving morning for example) but not the sustained winds for several hours, creating constant wind chill values below freezing for most of the day.

When you wake up this morning, many will experience values in the lower teens to single digit readings, especially farther north in Alabama and Georgia.  Later in the day, wind chill values will only climb to 32°-36°, with 15-25 mph winds, before they plummet again by sunset. The actual high readings will range from the lower to mid 40s only!

Second Colder Air Mass

Early next week: The Polar air will clip a good portion of the viewing area. Even though all models are now in agreement for this cold air mass taking a dive, the winds will also help to transport it farther south, similar to our cold snap back on January 9-11th of 2010.

The actual lows dipped into the upper teens, 17°-19° to be exact; making January 2010 the coldest January since 1985. Similar weather conditions back on January 16-21st in 2009, when we dipped to 19° on both days.

Last temperature below 15:  12º on 1/24/2003 (as I wrote in my blog)

Last temperature 10 or below: 10º on February 5, 1996

Last single digits: 9º on December 24, 1989.

Authorities with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office say Johnny Bolt, of Five Points, walked into the sheriff's office this week and confessed to sexually abusing a family member under the age of 12. They say he was arrested Thursday and made bond that same day.
