Tigers discuss stopping Jameis Winston

Posted: Updated:
NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. - Friday, it was the Auburn defense's turn to step in front of the microphones. All they're faced with doing on Monday is slowing down Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston.

Of course, Auburn Defensive Coordinator Ellis Johnson pointed out that the Tigers have already faced three quarterbacks who, at one time or another, were mentioned in the Heisman conversation: Johnny Manziel, Aaron Murray and AJ McCarron.

They did just enough to win those games, and Johnson admits, it might not always be pretty, but the Tigers know how to get it done.

“We have not been, by all standards, a really good defense this year. I think part of it's because we're in a new system,” Johnson said. “These guys have gone through three different systems in three different years. We've been inconsistent at times. You need to put that on me, but we've always known how to play in the moment."

Of course, the big question is, how will this defense stop Winston, or slow him down?

Robenson Therezie said that he doesn't think Winston has faced a front four or a secondary like Auburn's yet this season.
