Former QB Frazier transferring from Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. -

Auburn rising senior quarterback/safety/wide receiver Kiehl Frazier is transferring.

Gus Malzahn made the announcement Friday afternoon at his season-ending news conference.

"Kiehl Frazier is moving on," Malzahn said. "We appreciate everything that he's done. He's been a class individual. He's a winner and we're going to root for him in the future."

Frazier played in all 13 of Auburn's game as a true freshman in 2011, backing up Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley. He was named the starter prior to the 2012 season, but struggled. He was benched after five games and would not start again, completing just 53.4 percent of his passes on the season for 753 yards, two touchdowns and eight interceptions.

"I'm extremely close to him," Malzahn said. "We talked throughout the year and he just felt, at this time, he wanted to go somewhere and play quarterback. We wish him nothing but the best. He'll do well."

Frazier was unable to separate himself from Jonathan Wallace in the spring, and in August, pulled out of the quarterback competition entirely to play safety. He saw the field just one time on defense, Auburn's final possession against Arkansas State.

He did make appearances as the Tigers' wildcat quarterback, rushing for 34 yards on 10 carries. He also played some receiver but did not record a catch.

"Josh [Floyd, head coach at Shiloh Christian in Springdale, Ark.] is his former high school coach and a former quarterback of mine," Malzahn said. "We're all communicating."

Frazier has one year of eligibility remaining along with a redshirt year. Floyd told Ryan Black of the Ledger-Enquirer that Frazier was "most likely" headed to Ouachita Baptist, a Division II school in Arkadelphia, Ark., where he could play immediately.
