Rosters announced for AL-GA Indoor Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Lions  released the names of 39 players selected to play in the 2014 Alabama-Georgia High School Indoor Classic, scheduled for Saturday, February 8 at the Columbus Civic Center (gametime 7:00 p.m. EST). 

Tickets are $12.50 (open seating) and fans are encouraged to get to the game early for their favorite seat locations.   An exact date that tickets go on sale will be announced shortly.


Rosters for the High School Indoor Classic were selected by the Columbus Lions coaching staff with the help of local sportswriters and broadcasters.  All coaches of Bi-City and Chattahoochee Valley high schools were sent player nomination forms, and the Lions organization thanks the coaches who took the time to nominate their best performing seniors for what Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson promises to be “a great experience”.

 All practices will be on the Civic Center turf for the first time, and each team will be coached by a Lions assistant coach, one from the Lions-operated Columbus Youth Indoor Football League (YIFL) and a current Lions player.  These staffs will be announced by Friday.

Rather than separating teams by state, they’ll be designated as “Team Red” (Muscogee County Schools) and “Team Blue” (schools outside Muscogee County in both Alabama and Georgia).  Players are expected to log significant playing time on both offense and defense.

The 2014 High School All-Star Indoor Classic is part of an entire week of football activities organized by the Lions, including the first annual “Lions Bowl” Flag Football Tournament (dates TBA) and the final Lions open tryout, Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.

This is the Lions’ fourth hosting of the Alabama-Georgia High School Indoor Classic, with the format significantly altered.  Georgia won all three previous games, 54-21 in 2009 ( winning coach Brookstone’s Blair Harrison); 83-48 in 2010 (Josh Kemp of Chattahoochee County) and 46-13 in 2011 (Jordan’s Dave Nurnberg).  The game was on hiatus the past two years, but brought back by Gibson as part of the Lions’ year-round commitment to youth football in the Chattahoochee Valley.
