CSU men,women take down Armstrong

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus State University men's basketball team finally played a game without drama. After the two teams combined for 53 fouls and shot 73 free throws, the Cougars prevailed 89-74 over visiting Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference contest took place inside the Lumpkin Center.

"I thought that ball security and free throws were the difference for us tonight," commented head coach Robert Moore. "Taking care of the ball and hitting our shots at the line are key in closing out games.

On the women's side, Armstrong made a late run at the Lady Cougars in Peach Belt Conference action, but Columbus State held on for the win and defeated the Pirates 79-78 at home in the Lumpkin Center. The win put CSU up to 10-4, 5-3 in the conference. Armstrong fell to 9-5, 4-4 in the PBC.

The Pirates threatened the Lady Cougars with a buzzer-beating basket that would have given them a one-point win. Bryonna Davis stole the ball at half court with three seconds remaining and went for a layup on a fast break, but to CSU's relief it was no good.

The Lady Cougars are now 4-0 in games following a loss and 6-2 in games decided by five points or less this season.
